Hello World……………..
Life continues to go on after a lay off. That happened 2 years ago and no job as yet.
I am a wife(43 years), mother of two sons, a grandmother and also a great grandmother. I am granny to my grand and great grandchildren. My mother-in-law was horrified when I said I wanted my grandchildren to call me Granny. I don’t remember hearing the names Nana, GiGi, JaJa(Ugandian), Meme, Nonie, but knew I wanted something different than Grandmaw or Grandmother, thus Granny.
I have always kept journals and loved to write others to share God’s inspirations, my love of baby dolls, knitting, crocheting, quilting, etc. I have friends with blogs/websites and felt this may be something I could do myself. So with that…calling all Grannys, mothers, and anyone who loves my hobbies to come join in my new journey of sharing ideas, thoughts, ups and downs, websites and God’s inspirations in our lives. (P.S…. I can learn from you too).
Get your coffee or favorite beverage and pull up a chair so we can enjoy with each other the joys in our lives and maybe the not so joyful times. We all need support, encouragement and new ideas in our lives.
God Bless All and the new journey we can have together.
Granny – Cheryl
Hi Granny Cheryl,
My name is Sherrie and I am also a grandmother. I have two grandsons, 16 and 13 and one granddaughter, 16, and they are the lights of my life. When the oldest started talking, ‘Grandma’ came out as ‘Mimi’, so that has become what they all call me. They live in Texas and so do I. I spend six months of the year, November through April, in the Houston area and May through October on the central Oregon coast to flee the terrible Texas summertime heat.
I have enjoyed doing all kinds of crafts for most of my life. My grandmother taught me how to crochet and embroider when I was very young and I am still doing both. I have also done sand painting, macrame, needlepoint, cross-stitch, and stained glass among other things. Of course, reading has always been an all-time favorite.
I’ll write more later and tell you about some of my individual projects and maybe you can tell me about some of the things you do.
Hi Sherri, Good to hear from you. Thanks for connecting. I seem to be slow at all this. I have a friend that lives in Salem, Oregon and I am in TX myself.(42 years. Been trying to get out of here since day one. HA!) I too learned most of my needle work and quilting at a young age from my grandmother and my mother. Most of which I did not do anything with until after I married. I have done embroidery, counted cross-stitch, crochet, knitting, quilting, plastic canvas, some ceramic. I mostly do crochet, knit and quilting today. I too enjoy reading, mostly mysteries right now. Hope to hear from you again. Thanks for making a comment. Granny~Cheryl
My favorite type of self-HELP book is a book full of qultis that I want to make. Also, any book that agrees with my views 100%. At my age I changed myself so much that I am somewhat of a pretzel
Hi Cheryl-
I spend my winters in LaPorte, which is just outside of Houston and like you have been trying to get out since day one. Now that I am retired, I finally can. I was raised in the Black Hills of South Dakota and loved it. Now I spend my summers on the Oregon coast so I have a combination of the ocean, the mountains and the cool weather in the summer and it’s lovely.
I, too, concentrate mostly on crochet these days, but I still manage to fit in some cross stitch and my very favorite, making stained glass hangings. In the evenings, I enjoy my kindle reading my mysteries.
I have joined the quilting group at our church and we make quilts for Lutheran World Relief. They are not fancy quilts, just machine stitched squares that are hand-tied with yarn in each square with batting as a filler and a plain sheet as backing. The sheet is then folded around the quilt squares, with a hem pinned around the edges and we hand-stitch the hems. No fancy quilting stitching or anything like that, but twice a year we pack them up and send them to a central location. They send them to another location where they are distributed to places around the US or somewhere else around the world that has been hit by a disaster of some kind where they need warm blankets. It’s a good feeling to do something that you feel is doing some lasting good for someone. We have a great group of ladies and enjoy each others company when we get together.
It is so nice to hear of couples long maeirrd and still in love the way it should be. I have not been so fortunate, so I am always happy to hear others who have been blessed with this kind of happiness.
Hi Cheryl,
I am a grandmother of 3, they call me Nana. I have been married for 35 years and my husband still works at Verizon after 31 years. I left Verizon after 14 years. My husband and I love being around our grandkids, but I am the one with the camera taking the pictures. Every weekend, whatever we do, ballgame, park, birthday party, tae kwon do practice, you name it, I am there with my camera! We also live on a ranch of 10 acres with cows and 2 miniature horses and my 2 dogs, so I’m even grabbing the camera at home! There’s my hobby! I am trying to get some of my income back by starting my websites making available kids furniture and other kids items. I’m hoping you and your friends check my sites out – http://kiddiedigs.com/ and http://easycollectibles.com/ ….
I started back in April on getting one site up on the internet and I cannot believe how much work and money it has taken me! It was like another full-time job and very disappointing in what I was expecting to be fun and enjoying to do, not tedious! I have both sites up and working now and I am so excited for my first sale!
I hope to check in with you Cheryl and your friends and I will show you some pictures of my grandkids and of the animals on the farm!
Talk to you soon,
“Nana Brenda”

My partner and i love your wepagbe Learn How To Crochet | stayabreast. Thanks a lot for that remarkable article! I will book mark your current weblog and additionally check out again here frequently.
Hi Nana Brenda,
Good to hear from you. I am still trying to get this blog up and going plus a website. Seems it all is a process. Glad to hear you are into taking photo’s. I am always the one taking the pictures any where we go. Told my husband he was not going to have any pictures of me if I died. I manage to get him to take one of me and the grandkids at least 3 times a year. HA!
I have a friend that is getting into taking photo’s. Trying to encourage her to really get busy with it. She has 2 camera’s so I am going to get with her to learn more on picture taking myself.
I have decided for Christmas I am going to make DVD’s for our parents and siblings from all the pictures over the years I have taken when we have been together. Usually I am the only one who ever takes pictures. It is usually so hard to come up with gifts for Christmas, especially for parents. My in-laws have just in the past year got a computer. They are in their mid 80′s so it is never to late to learn. May be this can be an idea for you too as gifts.
I would love to hear about your ranch life. I love the country. I will be glad to get pictures. I am taking new pictures to have some updated ones to put on my blog here. Good luck with your website ventures. I am going to check out your sites tonight.
Take care. Till we meet again, God Bless.
