Knitting and Fall
Hello Ladies, It is time for those scarves and shawls to get made, also may be a sweater or two.
I am finding time these days to do some knitting projects of scarves for the fall and winter seasons to sell. Of course some will be for family and friends for Christmas gifts. Things have been a bit stressful lately so knitting keeps me on a more even line functioning. Do you find that happens to you too? Like all crafters I have my stash of yarn that I bought on sale the past year or so. I have been blessed many times to get the better quality yarn for a steal. I am also trying to use up yarn so I can get my craft room in better order. Having several different hobbies one tends to have lots of items bought to make them. My crafts mostly deal with yarn or material so that isn’t too bad. But, when you add dolls-doll clothes and bears to that mix, it can get pretty crowded for one room. That room usually ends up being the catch all room too. Trying not to let that happen from now on.
If you have any storage tips to share for yarn and material I hope you will send them my way. I am sure I am not the only one in need of ideas.

The easiest knnttiig pattern I know of is this one. It makes a square afghan that is the same on both sides and has an eyelet border.Cast on 5 stitches.Knit two rows.Row 3: K2, yo, k3Row 4: K2, yo, k4Row 5: K2, yo, k5Row 6: K2, yo, k6Row 7: K2, yo, k7Continue in this fashion, increasing one stitch on each row, until the sides measure the length/width you want. Then start decreasing:1st Decrease Row: K1, k2tog, yo, k2tog, k to end of row.2nd Decrease Row: K2, k2tog, yo, k2tog, k to end of row.Continue in this fashion, decreasing one stitch on each row, until you have 5 stitches left.Knit 2 rows.Bind off.Variation (this makes a square afghan with a 2-st garter stitch border and stockinette stitch center:Cast on 5 stitches and knit 2 rows.Row 3: K2, M1 (make 1 st), k3Row 4: K2, M1, p2, k2Row 5: K2, M1, k to the end of the rowRow 6: K2, M1, p to the last 2 sts, k2.Continue in this fashion, increasing one stitch on each row, until the sides measure the length/width you want. Then start decreasing on the K side:1st decrease row: K2, k2tog, k to the end of the row.2nd decrease row: K2, k2tog, p to the last 2 sts, k2.Repeat these two rows until there are 5 sts.Bind off.Another easy pattern is this one:Cast on a number of stitches unevenly divisible by 5 (155, 185, 205, etc.)Border: K 5 rows.Pattern:Row 1: *K5, p5. Repeat from * to the end of the row.Row 2: *P5, k5. Repeat from * to the end of the row.Row 3: *K5, p5. Repeat from * to the end of the row.Row 4: *P5, k5. Repeat from * to the end of the row.Row 5: *K5, p5. Repeat from * to the end of the row.Row 6: *K5, p5. Repeat from * to the end of the row.Row 7: *P5, k5. Repeat from * to the end of the row.Row 8: *K5, p5. Repeat from * to the end of the row.Row 9: *P5, k5. Repeat from * to the end of the row.Row 10: *K5, p5. Repeat from * to the end of the row.Repeat these 10 rows until the afghan is as long as you want it to be.Knit 5 rows.Bind off.Variation: If you want a garter stitch side border, just knit the first 5 stitches on every row, then work the pattern to the last 5 stitches, and knit the last 5 stitches on every row.
Hi,I’m happy that my website eanruocges you to knit more patterns. You ought to cast on 70 stitches for a medium yarn (size 4). After knitting about 4cm of any jerseys pattern convert to your desired pattern for about 15cm without any decrease. It will look like a rectangular. Then knit each two stitches together. It means if you’ve started 70 stitches, in this row you will end the row by 35 stitches left. Knit 5 more rows with these 35 stitches with basic stitches. Then cut off yarn having about 50cm long tail. Pick up a big sewing needle and pass yarn through the hole. By hole end of the needle pick up stitches one by one. Pull the yarn firmly to make that circle at the end of hat. Twitch it and sew up the two edges by left yarn.
Thanks for replying and the pattern. I will try it soon. I am trying to finish up some scarves to send my nephew and neices up in Arkansas. Will probably move on to quilting for a while instead of knitting, but I always have a knitting or crocheting item usually going. Carry them with me every where. Never know when I will be in a traffic line.
Have a great day.
Hi Granny Cheryl-
It’s good to hear from you again. I too have been doing some crocheting this winter. I have done a couple of scarves for my granddaughter and my daughter using a blue/turquoise/black/grey/sage green and purple variegated yarn with a black picot stich along each long side and a black fringe on the short ends. They look very nice. I have posted a picture of them on my website.
I’ve also been working on some stained glass since I’ve been back in Texas so I have been very busy since I’ve been home. Check out my website for a picture of the piece I finished last summer and gave to a friend of mine up in Oregon. It’s called ‘The Fouled Anchor’ and is the Navy symbol. This friend is a retired Navy man so I thought it would have particular meaning for him. He said he thought it was about the nicest thing anyone has ever done for him. Made me feel really good.
I have a very good, long-time friend who lives in your town. We’ll have to talk and see if you know her. You stay well and busy and keep that depression away!! Can’t have that getting to you!
Take care until next time.
